Injured Burnley & Leeds stars to miss England’s Euro 2020

Nick Pope to have surgery

It appears as though Burnley goalkeeper Nick Pope’s Euro 2020 dream has come to an end after it was confirmed that the stopper would require minor knee surgery.

The Times reported that he will immediately be operated on to try and correct an issue which has meant he has missed some key fixtures for Sean Dyche’s side.

Nick Pope is a big doubt for England’s Euro 2020 squad after it was revealed he needs minor surgery on a knee problem.

The Burnley goalkeeper, 29, will go under the knife tomorrow to try to resolve an issue that has kept him out of five of the last eight games of the season.

Should he miss out, Southgate would likely decide to bring in West Brom keeper Sam Johnstone in his place.

He would join Everton’s Jordan Pickford and Manchester United’s Dean Henderson.

Phillips a doubt

Gareth Southgate has a further problem with Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips also a doubt.

Phillips sustained a shoulder problem in the final match of the season against West Brom.

One of the names who would be the most likely replacement for Phillips is Jordan Henderson.

Klopp provided an update on Henderson who has missed the latter stages of the season due to injury but returned to the bench for the final match with Crystal Palace despite not making an appearance.

“He will be fine, I don’t know if he will be in the squad but he is fine, he trained the last two days with us, he is fine. He can return to training as normal – he will be one of the few players in the squad who are fresh which is good news,” said Klopp.

It is expected that Declan Rice will be the guaranteed starter in the England midfield. Southgate could choose to opt to play with a single number 6 behind two number 8s in a more attacking style.

Mason Mount, Phil Foden, Jack Grealish and Jesse Lingard are the more attacking midfield options available. Alternatively Southampton’s James Ward-Prowse or Borussia Dortmund’s Jude Bellingham could play alongside Rice in the more natural double pivot.

Only time will tell when Southgate announces his squad.

If Spurs can’t sign Nick Pope, they may try for Man United’s Dean Henderson
