Leicester set to improve Kante contract offer

According to the Telegraph, Leicester City are set to make N’Golo Kante their highest paid player in a bid to prevent him leaving for Chelsea. The foxes had originally offered the French midfielder a huge deal worth £100,000 a week, however, Kante is said to have turned it down. The player was hugely influential for Leicester last season and now the Premier League champions are now prepared to make an improved counter-offer, in order to convince him to stay.

Kante, who signed from Caen last summer for £5.6 million, is a target for new Chelsea manager Antonio Conte but Leicester believe they can make him stay. They believe the advantage of winning the Premier League last season and playing Champions League football next season is making them more attractive than Chelsea, as a whole.

Claudio Ranieri, who became a real fan favourite last season, has also pleaded with his stars (Kante, Vardy, Mahrez etc.) to stay for at least one more year just to see if they can make the impossible, possible, once again.

However, Chelsea’s Antonio Conte has targeted the 25-year-old and wants to sign him as part of his squad revamp this summer. It it believed talks have already opened over a possible deal and although Chelsea are facing competition from Chinese Super League side Shanghai SIPG, they are hopeful of securing Kante’s signature later this month.

Kante will not link up with Leicester’s squad – if he is to stay at the club – until the end of the month, after his participation at Euro 2016 for France.
