A remarkable statistic surrounding Luka Jovic’s goalscoring exploits has taken centre stage online this evening, on the back of Eintracht Frankfurt’s win over Schalke.

Bernabeu woes

Serbian hitman Jovic of course made the big-money move to Real Madrid in the summer of 2019.

The 23-year-old was snapped up by Los Blancos on the back of a scintillating campaign in Germany, during which he directly contributed to 34 goals across all competitions.

To say that Jovic’s time in Madrid has since not gone according to plan, though, would be the understatement of all understatements.

The 11-time capped international looked a shell of his former self under Zinedine Zidane, with a combination of fitness struggles, disciplinary issues and an all-round lack of form having seen Jovic more or less completely restricted to backup duties.

Back on song

In turn, it didn’t come as too much of a surprise when, on the back of just two La Liga starts to this point in the campaign, a loan departure from the Spanish capital was sanctioned for Jovic earlier this week.

The once-prolific hitman returned to the site where he enjoyed the finest form of his career – Frankfurt.

Jovic has linked up with the Bundesliga outfit on loan, for the remainder of the season.

And, if his first outing back in the colours of Die Adler is anything to go by, then the deal looks set to prove an inspired piece of business for club and player alike.

The Real loanee was handed his 2nd debut for Eintracht this evening, in a meeting with Schalke.

Jovic was introduced off the bench with half an hour to go, with the two sides locked at a goal apiece.

And, remarkably, he went on to prove the match-winner, with not one, but two goals inside the game’s closing twenty minutes:

On the back of Jovic’s stunning return to form at the Waldstadion, meanwhile, as outlined above, a frankly staggering statistic has since come to the fore online, highlighting not only how impressive his showing proved today, but also how badly the Serb struggled in Madrid.

Jovic’s 2-goal haul versus Schalke marks the same number of goals that he managed across a span of 18 months whilst lining out for Real:
