Nuno Espirito Santo targeting 4-4-2 formation with striker identified to partner Harry Kane

Spurs identify Kane striker partner

Tottenham Hotspur are looking to pursue a deal for Southampton striker Danny Ings this summer.

According to the Telegraph, Nuno Espirito Santo has made Ings their ‘priority signing’ this summer.

Tottenham Hotspur have made Southampton striker Danny Ings their priority signing this summer with a firm belief that he can play in attack alongside Harry Kane, whom they remain determined to keep at the club.

It was previously reported that Ings had rejected a new deal with Southampton looking to aim for a tougher challenge.

This would likely mean that Southampton would accept a relatively low fee for the player considering the time left on his current contract.

Spurs may however be wary of the injury issues Ings has faced this season and beyond. Typically tending to miss a small chunk of most campaigns after a serious knee problem which occurred whilst with Liverpool

Switch to a 4-4-2

The indication of the interest in Ings is not so he can replace Harry Kane but instead play with him.

Matt Law writes that Nuno is favouring a tactical switch of formation whilst at the club.

Nuno is understood to want to switch Spurs’ style to a two-man attack with a Premier League-ready goalscorer alongside the England captain. He already has Heung-min Son, with whom the club hope to finalise a new deal soon. The squad’s profile needs greater options in attack. Brazilian striker Carlos Vinicius failed to make an impression on loan last season and will not return.

He previously used both a 3-4-3 and 4-3-3 whilst at Wolves so this would represent a major change for the former west midlands’ club boss.

Whilst having Son already, the idea he would play as a left-midfielder does appear to limit the South Korean somewhat.

It also begs the question of where Dele Alli would fit in. The former England international has struggled to earn a place and occupies an attacking midfield role that does not look initially visible with the theorised switch in tactics.

The biggest indication though is that all plans are taking place with Kane at the forefront.
