The great app known as Snapchat has had a pretty big day yesterday.

They changed their name, introduced a new product, and kind of set the world alight with what they’ve done. Check out the description of themselves on their homepage:

“Snap Inc. is a camera company. We believe that reinventing the camera represents our greatest opportunity to improve the way people live and communicate. Our products empower people to express themselves, live in the moment, learn about the world, and have fun together.”

Interesting words there, right?

And interesting move releasing product.

Software companies turned hardware companies always seems like a sketchy proposition to me. You can’t serve two masters. Or at least you can’t serve two masters well. One can assume that they’ve had this is dev for quite some time now and with IG jacking their product uniqueness was some sort of impetus in making the move but I just don’t know.

Difficult because I like the idea of it, but the execution doesn’t work for me. I use the shxt out of snapchat, but would never been seen dead or alive in those hideous glasses. But, that’s just me. And I’m definitely not that key demo that they are shooting for but I can’t imagine that these initial looks are targeting a huge number of users.
